        Tillamook spit, the site of the historical effort to build an "Atlantic City of the West," is a fine place for an easy 8-mile hike almost any time of the year. Today a downpour of heavy rain passed to the north of here and missed this area completely. There were birdwatchers and a hiking group from the Chemeketans, in addition to Omar (myself) and Dennis Stillwell (of the Northwest Hiker website).
